VANESSA WALLPAPER
Mini Moderns take a day-trip to the Courtauld Gallery and find inspiration in the work of Vanessa Bell.
‘Vanessa’ is a re-coloured and reissued design, which was originally launched as ‘Omega’, designed in collaboration with the Courtauld Gallery and short listed for an Elle Decoration British Design Award 2009.
Mini Moderns designers Keith Stephenson and Mark Hampshire explain how they came to revisit Vanessa: “We wanted to create a coordinating abstract design to complement other prints in the ‘Day-tripper’ collection. As we had previously collaborated with the Courtauld Gallery we revisited the Vanessa Bell inspired design we had worked on and realized that it was the perfect fit.”
Vanessa is a painterly dynamic abstract with timeless appeal. Whilst the print has been re-coloured in the 50s inspired Day-tripper palette, Vanessa takes Mini Moderns much farther back in the design timeline – all the way to the early 20th Century, when Vanessa Bell and other Bloomsbury set artists were working. Keith and Mark reflect: “It’s testament to how ahead of their times the Bloomsbury artists and designers of the Omega Workshop were, that the designs continue to look so fresh.”
The wallpaper comes in 10m x 52cm rolls printed with waterbased inks on paper from sustained forests.
‘Vanessa’ is available in three coordinating colourways: Mustard & Concrete, Harvest Orange & Stone, Lido & Stone and Amethyst.
